Supreme Court Verdict on Adani Case: Expert Panel Created, SEBI Ordered to Investigate Adani-Hindenburg Case

The Supreme Court has mandated the creation of a six-person expert team led by Justice AM Sapre, a retired Supreme Court justice. OP Bhatt, KV Kamath, Nandan Nilekani, Justice JP Devdatt, and Somsekhar Sundaresan are also on the committee.

The Supreme Court also requested that the market regulator SEBI provide its findings to the committee's aid. The results of SEBI's investigation are laid out in the SC's ruling.

Improve the current regulatory structure through suggested measures. A former Supreme Court judge, Judge Abhay Manohar Sapre, will lead the committee. The Supreme Court is eager to demonstrate the need for openness in the system.

Appointing a high-powered committee increases diversity, and the Supreme Court's ruling will inspire trust among investors. The committee has a wide range of expertise, and they will consider all angles.

The order notes that SEBI appears to be seized of the claims but has not explicitly referred to an investigation into whether or not the ADANI group violated minimum public shareholding standards.

The Supreme Court has ordered SEBI to investigate potential violations of the Securities Act, related party transaction disclosures, and manipulation of share prices. It has given SEBI two months to report its findings to the expert panel. The Court has also ruled that creating the expert panel will not strip SEBI of its authority to investigate these matters.
